Mohamad collaborates with the community to foster a more open, equitable, and trusted research ecosystem. In his role at DataCite, he supports institutions and communities across Asia, the Middle East, and North Africa, implementing Open Research principles. Mohamad contributed to launching the ORCID Arabic interface in the Arab world and served as a volunteer Crossref Ambassador for the MENA region, advocating for Persistent Identifiers (PIDs) adoption and open infrastructure. Passionate about Open Science, he has extensive experience in scholarly publishing, focusing on Open Access journals and books. In promoting research integrity, Mohamad conceived 'Think. Check. Attend.' an initiative endorsed by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). It helps academics in selecting the right conferences for attending or presenting their research, thereby avoiding misleading events.

Dr. Emily Choynowski is the Co-Founder and Director of Operations for the Forum for Open Research in MENA (a non-profit independent initiative founded and funded by the Knowledge E Foundation) where she works with key regional stakeholders to promote the development and implementation of open science policies and practices across the Arab region. She also works as the Chief Academic Officer at Knowledge E, overseeing the Research Development and Dissemination division, which provides scholarly content, academic publishing solutions, manuscript preparation support, and capacity-building services to a wide range of government organisations, funding bodies and academic entities across the globe. Meanwhile, as an independent scholar working in the field of eighteenth- and nineteenth-century British literature and culture, Emily serves as Director of The Byron Society (a UK-based literary charity), regularly publishes in leading journals, presents at conferences, and gives lectures at schools, museums and universities across the world.

Franciska de Jong has been professor of e-Research for the Humanities at Utrecht University since September 2015 and is the former director of CLARIN ERIC, the European research infrastructure for language data. For thirty years she was a full professor of language technology at the University of Twente. At Erasmus University Rotterdam she led the institute for e-research. In Horizon Europe project EOSC Focus, she is leading the work package on the sustainability of the European Open Science Cloud and she is a member of the Steering Board of Open Science-NL. Ahmed Siyad is the CEO of the Somali Research and Education Network (SomaliREN), the National Research and Education Network (NREN) for Somalia. He is also the co-founder and current chairman of the Somali Network Operators' Group (SomNOG), a forum dedicated to fostering technical capacity and knowledge sharing among Somali ICT professionals through research and training. Previously, he served as a Senior MIDA/IOM Technical Advisor to the Ministry of Communications and Technology, FGS. Ahmed holds a Master of Science in Telecommunications and Networking and a Bachelor of Engineering in Telecommunications. He is deeply involved in initiatives related to digital transformation, digital policy, e-governance, and connecting communities. His work focuses on enhancing connectivity and promoting innovation within the Somali education and research community, as well as driving digital transformation in the health sector. Dr Ryma Abassi obtained the SSHN (Séjour Scientifique de Haut Niveau) grant two times in 2014 and 2017 and was a visiting professor at University of Limoges, France. In 2017, Dr Ryma Abassi received the prestigious Fulbright visiting scholarship at Tufts University, MA, USA. In 2024, she was listed in the 2024 SIA Women in Security Forum (WISF) Power 100 Honorees as well as in the Security's Top Cybersecurity Leaders 2024. In November 2022, she was recognized as one of the TOP 3 researcher in cybersecurity in the Middle East by the WiCSME, in July 2020, she was recognized as one of the TOP 50 women in cybersecurity in Africa and in September 2020 as the best young researcher in Computer science in Tunisia by the Tunisian Academy of Sciences, Letters and Arts. Her current research work is focusing on cybersecurity, MANET/VANET security, trust management, security protocols validation, IoT security, artificial intelligence, etc.

I obtained my engineering degree in scientific computing from ENSIMAG Grenoble in 1989, After my PhD in applied mathematics (Joseph Fourier University in Grenoble) in 1992, I joined the CEA Cadarache as a research software engineer in the field of uncertainty evaluation of Nuclear Power Plants accident simulation. In 2002 I joined the SOLEIL Synchrotron leading the Software development of control, acquisition and data reduction high level applications. Since 2016 I am in charge of SOLEIL Synchrotron onboarding in Open Science. I am its representative in RDA and the EOSC Association, and also co-leading the Data Working group of LEAPS.

In recent years I have been involved in governance of large, international efforts (policy committee & Executive Board of GÉANT European R&E Network, co-chair GLIF Technical Workgroup), worked on European framework program projects (GEANT, FEDERICA, NEXPReS), worked with technical communities (TERENA taskforces, chaired the TERENA Networking Conference, CERN & LHC networking). Giuseppe Perrone entered the Italian diplomatic career in 1990 after graduating from the University of Turin in political science. He served at the Italian Embassy in Algiers during the ‘Black Decade of Terrorism’ and the country’s transition to democracy. In the second half of the 90s, he served at the Italian Embassy in Washington, dealing with relations between the two countries in the field of culture. Returning to the Farnesina, he dealt with political relations with the countries of the Middle East, before moving to the Presidency of the Republic (during President Ciampi’s term of office) in the office of the Diplomatic Adviser.

In 1989, I started as Engineer at Computer Center at Jordan University of Science and Technology, and then I had successfully established and managed the New Computer and Information Center at Jordan University of Science and Technology in 1999 (serving around 16000 students, 3500 faculty and staff members), then, and at the national level, established the Jordanian National Research and Education Network (serving 11 Universities with more than 250000 students and 25000 faculty and staff members). After that, and at the international level, I played a prominent and key role in the efforts and initiatives that aim to establish a Pan Arab regional e-Infrastructure for scientific research since more than 5 years. As part of the International Relations team at the pan-European networking organisation GÉANT, for 20 years Helga has been involved in network development across the globe, primarily in the context of EU-funded research and education networking projects. She supported the Arab States Research and Education Network (ASREN) in the implementation of AfricaConnect3 in north Africa and EUMEDCONNECT in the Eastern Mediterranean and was instrumental in securing the EU_funded EUMEDplus projects for the next 4 years. Helga current focus is on GÉANT’s global partnership engagement in Asia-Pacific. Helga joined GÉANT in 2004, holding various positions as the organisation has evolved, but always driven by arguing the case for NRENs and R&E networking and compellingly showcasing the impact.
